These are the kinds of high stakes games you really look forward to in the schedule. The Red Wings are easily the worst team in the league this year and the Senators are not far behind them. The battle for Alexis Lafreniere is on. Tonight, Detroit showed they may not be dead, yet by winning against the Ottawa Senators in a shootout, 3-2.
THOUGHTS & HIGHLIGHTS
- Overall, a pretty meh game that had the teams tied from the second period until very late into the third.
- Filip Zadina had a scary moment in the first period when he collided with a Senator deep in their zone, twisting awkwardly and landing on his shoulder. He was slow to get up and missed a shift or two, but was ultimately okay and finished out the game.
Zadina slow to get up on this one. Looks like it hurt, but he's still on the bench. #LGRW pic.twitter.com/vhIhk17f2G

- The first goal of the game came shortly after this Zadina scare. Filip Hronek made a beauty pass through the slow to find Tyler Bertuzzi, who made no mistake deflecting it into the open net. It was a chef’s kiss goal all around:

- Dylan Larkin added a tally in the second period on the power play. He started with the puck deep in his own end and took it all the way to the other end, blowing past all of the Senators defenders and pulling it beautifully around Marcus Hogberg.

- The Senators stormed back with two unanswered goals of their own from Brady Tkachuk and Colin White.
- Overtime was weird. It started with a Red Wings power play and ended with a Senators power play. Because these teams are the Red Wings and the Senators, neither team was able to convert and the game went to a shootout, where Larkin scored the only goal to secure the win for the good guys.
