Doing the right thing may not seem like that big of a deal, sometimes it can be the tiniest thing that makes someone’s day. In the case of Riley Sheahan, all he did was attend prom with a girl. The story behind it though, is anything but ordinary.
“I’m more nervous than a playoff game” Sheahan said. Morgan is the young lady who wrote the letter to the Red Wings and Riley Sheahan asking if he would go to prom with her. Luckily, Sheahan stepped up and was able to surprise her on her big night. Only months ago, she was told that her brain tumor would be inoperable. An unimaginable diagnosis for someone facing such an illness.
“It’s pretty cool. Speechless but pretty cool” said Morgan, when asked about Sheahan coming to her prom. She was very surprised to find out that Sheahan was nervous to attend the event. The big night wouldn’t be complete without a lot of dancing and dancing they did, as they seemingly cut a rug all night long.
When Morgan was asked what she will say to her friends, she said “I’ll tell them that this was one of the best nights.”
While athletes aren’t required to be role models by any stretch of the imagination, seeing players taking time out of their lives to help and support their fans during tough times is a great thing to see.
