While the debate rages on about whether winning is good or bad right now, the Red Wings young players have been putting up their best offensive performances of the season yet. Tyler Bertuzzi was rewarded for his recent play today when he was named the NHL’s second star of the week.
Bertuzzi has been a staple on the top line since the trade deadline in late-February, but he’s really turned it on lately. In the last four games, Bertuzzi has three goals and seven assists for 10 points. He’s tied with teammate Anthony Mantha for most points in the league in this time span, but Bertuzzi has had three 3-point outings in the last three games.
Only last night he assisted on all three of Mantha’s goals. Check out this amazing pass he makes to complete Mantha’s hat trick:
Nephew of former Red Wing Todd Bertuzzi, “Lil Bert” has had a fantastic season, totaling 19 goals and 44 points through his 70 games played. He’s ingrained himself in the top-6 and become a big part of the youth movement that’s driving this Red Wings team forward down the stretch. Next up is the 20-goal milestone and then we’ll see how much more he can improve next year.
Bertuzzi is joined by Sergei Bobrovsky (1st) and Darcy Kuemper (2nd) as the NHL’s three stars of the week.
