The Detroit Red Wings are attempting to sign one of their best forwards and they are having trouble getting him under contract.
The team has offered Tomas Tatar a 4.1 million dollar deal and Tatar wants a 5.3 million dollar deal. It remains unclear on how long the term will be but the two are still a gulf apart.
It doesn’t make much sense why the Red Wings are trying to play hardball with one of their better forwards and are okay with paying similar money to players that contribute less. As arbitration approaches, the Red Wings are up against the cap and fighting with one of their better players. The situation is going to get worse before it gets better.
