The Detroit Red Wings have traded Tomas Tatar to the Vegas Golden Knights for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick.
Rumours about the top-6 winger intensified over the last couple of weeks as it was announced that teams had significant interest in him and Gustav Nyquist. We know now that Tatar was the player of choice for Vegas.
Tatar goes to Vegas with some term as he has three years left on his contract that carries with it a cap hit of $5.3-million. It’s not a bad contract to take on, though, especially for the Golden Knights who have been surprisingly competitive this year. Tatar is good for 25+ goals per season and will be 30-years-old when his contract is up.

UPDATE:
Some updates on the trade here:
Tatar to Vegas for a 1st this year, 2nd next year and a 3rd in 2021.
Great haul on the trade here. If Vegas falls out of the playoffs early, that 1st in 2018 will be a mid-round pick. With these picks, the Wings have 8 picks through the first four rounds in 2018 and 6 picks through the first four rounds of 2019.
No conditions on the Vegas picks in Tatar deal.
This is very good. The picks are actually the picks. No conditions attached to them.
Vegas using its reserve of draft picks to send 1st, 2nd and 3rd-rounder to Detroit for Tomas Tatar. Red Wings not retaining any salary.
Perhaps the biggest benefit to this trade is that the Wings are retaining no salary. That’s $5.3-million coming off the books for the next three years, which will go a long way in locking up young players like Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha.
