It wasn’t the prettiest effort tonight, losing 5-2 to drop another game against last season’s playoff killer Tampa Bay.

Detroit managed to both a) score first and b) go nearly 20 minutes without giving up the first goal. By 22:22 into the game, however, they were down 2-1.

Scoring the game’s first goal was the one and only Frans “Frans Nielsen” Nielsen, his 15th of the season. Picking up an assist was Darren “Darren Helm” Helm with his sixth of the season, so that’s a positive!

After two goals in less than four minutes for the Lightning, things were looking on the up and up for our boys in red and white after Danny “Danny DeKeyser” DeKeyser tied it up courtesy of a 900th career point from the captain.

The Wings gave themselves a chance to get back (and maybe even win this game), but this possibility was killed when the Detroiters took an unfortunate pair of penalties in the latter half of the second period via Dylan “Dylan Larkin” Larkin and Danny “Danny DeKeyser” DeKeyser. Alex Killorn put the Bolts ahead, then the aforementioned Drouin goal popped in and gave the Lightning a two goal lead.

YANNI GOURDE – literally never heard of him- scored the fifth goal for Tampa.

Mike “Mike Green” Green managed to pop in a late power play goal, but it was mostly futile.

Bad team loses to middling team. The Wings remain last in the division.

The Red Wings actually came out on top on the shot clock tonight, albeit with a late, futile surge in the third period.

Riley Sheahan led the team in Corsi For% at even strength with 67%. Moral victories are all we have.

The Red Wings have the opportunity to help a playoff team out for the third straight game as they host the Leafs for the last time ever at the Joe Saturday night.
