If they made it easy, they just wouldn’t be the Detroit Red Wings. But magically, they pulled off a 5-4 regulation win tonight against the New York Islanders. Sure, it’s not exactly the best barometer, but wow, what a wild game.

Like Clockwork, the Wings found themselves down one under five minutes into the game, this time courtesy a Josh Bailey goal.

But the Wings scored two of the game’s next three goals, seeing results from… Luke Glendening? and Darren Helm? to tie the game at 2 midway through the second.

Anthony Mantha then continued the Wings’ momentum to put the Wings in front for the first time in the game with 6:36 remaining in the period.

But since Detroit is allergic to leading by two it seems, they let John Tavares get the Isles back into the game… albeit briefly.

Just 20 seconds later, Z found the back of the net.

After 40, things were Wings 4, Isles 3.

Jason Chimera popped in a goal with just under 3 minutes left and it looked like overtime was inevitable. 

Realistically, it probably should’ve happened.

But hockey is a funny game and the NHL is a place for funny things. Like Danny DeKeyser scoring two game winners over the same team in a season. Even like this:

5-4, Red Wings win.

Note: Frans Nielsen was injured and did not return for the third period. No word yet as to a timeline.

The Wings were outshot quite heavily in this one, losing on the shot clock by a 36-24 score. But hey, make the most of your chances when you have them!

Zetterberg picked up two points on the night.

The Wings are back in action tomorrow night as they take on Nashville.
