When the puck drops in Winnipeg on Friday night for the Red Wings tilt against the Jets, a key piece of their defense will be back on the blue line.
That’s right, Mike Green is ready to make his return!
Green hasn’t played since a December 11th game vs. the Washington Capitals. He’s been the Red Wings best defenseman this season in what’s been a kind of bounce-back year for him. With three goals and 16 points in the 23 games he’s played, Green’s 0.70 points-per-game is the highest rate he’s scored at since the 2012-13 season with the Washington Capitals.
While Green’s defensive statistics are not the strongest, the Red Wings 13-8-2 record with him in the lineup is a sign that the team is a little more confident with him on the blue line.
He’s a welcome addition to a team that is in dire need of a win.
