Jett Woo, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is a shutdown defenseman who is currently playing for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League. He fell from 20th to 28th on the NHL Central Scouting rankings throughout the year, which means he is a very real possibility for the Red Wings late in the first round. Let’s see what kind of player he is.
NHL CS RANKING
Projected to go 28th overall of North American skaters.
THE STATS

From EliteProspects.com
As most top prospects do, Woo excelled in his junior career, scoring over a point-per-game every season until he hit the Western Hockey League.
When he did begin in the WHL, Woo’s offense cooled and he settled into his defensive game. In his third season for the Moose Jaw Warriors, Woo put up the best point tally to date with nine goals and 16 assists.
Internationally, Woo has represented Canada as the captain of the Under-17 team at the World Hockey Championships in 2016-17 and played for the U18 team at the World Junior Championships that same year. He didn’t put up huge numbers, but he managed to support two teams that had successful tournaments.
THE EYE TEST
Woo is a good skater and can jump in on the rush. He can add scoring depth to the blue line, but his bread and butter is truly his defensive play. Projected to be a shutdown defenseman, Woo also shows great potential to ground a penalty kill. He’s got a good shot and a solid hockey IQ.
IS HE A MOTOR CITY MATCH?
Thanks to the Tomas Tatar trade, the Wings have a late first-round pick that belongs to the Vegas Golden Knights. Jett Woo could very well fall to them. With defense being a big gap on the current Red Wings roster and that of the near future, I could see them snatching up a 6-foot, 200-pound shutdown defenseman.
We could very well see Jett Woo put on a Red Wings jersey on the evening of June 22nd.
