With NHLers not going to China to participate in the Olympics for the second straight tournament, we all wondered who would be chasing Canada’s 10th Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey and now we have the answer.

This morning, the Canadian men’s Olympic hockey roster was made official after the IIHF accidentally tweeted out a spoiler yesterday, but it was still fun to see a couple of Oilers connections on the team that will compete in Beijing. The first is Adam Cracknell who is currently an alternate captain with the Bakersfield Condors after signing an AHL deal with the team back in June. The second connection is David Desharnais who was with the Oilers during the 2017 playoff run and now plays for HC Fribourg-Gotteron in the Swiss National “A” League, where he has collected 112 points in 134 games.

A mix of young and old, this Canadian men’s hockey roster doesn’t much look like the one we were planning to watch at the 2022 Winter Olympics, but that doesn’t mean there won’t still be a country of fans behind them as they look to improve upon the bronze medal they won in PyeongChang four years ago.
