The Red Wings announced this morning that they will be recalling Griffins defenceman and AHL veteran Brian Lashoff.
Yesterday, Head Coach Blashill said that they were going to call-up a defenceman, but were unsure who it would be at the time. I suppose Lashoff is that guy now.
It was also said, per Helene St. James, that this defenceman would not necessarily be in the lineup or play at all – citing the desire to just want a seventh defenceman to have up with the big club. I guess having a player ready and practicing with the Wings is better in case of future injuries.
Lashoff was called up earlier this season as well, but did not see any games.
The 28-year-old defenceman has played 26 games with the Griffins this year and has netted seven assists on the way.
He most likely won’t be seeing any ice for the Wings, but at least this means young prospects like Libor Sulak, Joe Hicketts, and Vili Saarijarvi get much more ice-time with the Griffins for the time being.
