Coming off a loss to the Senators, the Wings began a 3 game road trip this afternoon in Western Canada. Petr Mrazek got the start and hasn’t played since October 20th against the Capitals. Howard attended his uncle’s funeral yesterday and backed up today’s game after a long day of travelling. This was also Nielson’s 700th game and he got the Wings off to a 1-0 lead 3:23 into the first period.

The Wings played much better than the Oilers to start the game. At the 10:50 mark, Nyquist made it 2-0 with a shot from the front of the net. Nyquist, Tatar, and Zetterberg had a strong game prior to Nyquist leaving the game after taking the wrong end of a knee-on-knee from Gryba.

Blashill was forced to mix up the lines after the team announced Nyquist was not returning. Martin Frk got some time in the 2nd period with Mantha and AA and his shot did not disappoint.

After two periods, the Wings were up 3-0.

Kassian was caught playing with a broken stick and the Wings received their second power play of the game. Frk recorded the first shot of the PP and Mantha put in the rebound for his 7th of the season to put the Wings up 4-0.

Edmonton and Calgary have the least amount of goals-for in the NHL this season with 30 each. Edmonton continued to struggle to put anything in the net today. The Wings play the second half of their back-to-back tomorrow night in Vancouver and you can expect Howard will get the start. If Detroit plays as well tomorrow as they did today, we could be 2-0 on this road trip and on our way to Calgary. The wings lost to the Canucks at LCA on October 22nd so they’d love to get a win tomorrow at Rogers Arena.

Today’s MVP is Mrazek and that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. He posted a 37 save shut out after not playing since Oct. 20th.

All in all the Wings played great in all three zones today and got some excellent goaltending. They only took one penalty which is great when they didn’t have to kill penalties against McDavid and Draisaitl.

Tomorrow, the Wings need to come to play like they did today. Vancouver is off to an impressive 7-4-2 and just beat the Stanley Cup champions Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday. They need to keep Horvat and Baertschi off the score board and stay out of the penalty box. Hopefully Detroit returns home on November 11th with at least 2 wins on this road trip.
