Today the Red Wings announced their second signing from their 2018 NHL Draft, as defenceman Jared McIsaac has signed his Entry-Level Contract.
The Canadian defenceman was drafted in the second round this past June, at 36th overall. He will be playing with the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL this upcoming season – where he has played for the previous two seasons as well.
Last year, McIsaac was able to score 9 goals and 47 points in 65 games for the Mooseheads. He was fifth among all defenceman in powerplay points last year as well, with 20 of his 47 points coming on the man advantage. Just ranked behind fellow-2018 draftee Noah Dobson.
At even-strength, McIsaac was able to rank 15th among all QMJHL defenceman in points with 21.
McIsaac doesn’t find the net a ton, but he can pass the puck pretty well for a defenceman his age. Among his peers, he ranked 8th in primary assists at even-strength last year – only Noah Dobson had more primary assists as a U18 QMJHL defenceman.
This upcoming year, McIsaac looks to grow his game and will hopefully make a splash in the Red Wings defensive prospect pool.
