With some affiliation movement happening around the NHL, the Red Wings are staying put with their current choices for the time being.
Fans in Ohio that prefer an NHL organization that has actually won a playoff round, can rejoice in knowing that their Walleye will be kept together for at least the next three seasons.
The 2018-19 season will be the ninth of the partnership between the two clubs. The Walleye have been regarded as one of the top ECHL organizations in the league – winning multiple awards for business and community purposes.
Not only off the ice, but the Walleye have always been a contender in recent memory. They were able to win their division for the last four years – three of those they had 100+ points.
The connection between Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Toledo has been described as “one of the strongest in professional hockey” by Toledo GM Neil Neukam. Fans all throughout the organization should be excited about the possibility of continued success. From the rebuilding of Detroit, youth of Grand Rapids, and the constant threat of Toledo in the ECHL.
