Amidst the flurry of the NHL trade deadline, the eligibility deadline for AHL playoffs came and went and the Red Wings made a couple of paper moves. Two of our every day Red Wings, Tyler Bertuzzi and Jared Coreau, were assigned to the Griffins so they can help them compete for another Calder Cup. They will remain in Detroit. The most exciting news of the day came when Jeff Blashill gave us insight on a possible Evgeny Svechnikov move.
For a recap on yesterday’s activities, check out Tom Mitsos’s article Grading Red Wings Trade Deadline Deals.
Here is what you need to know about Bertuzzi, Coreau, and Svechnikov.
This is merely to make them eligible for playoffs, they will stay with the Red Wings for the remainder of the season. Once the playoffs do arrive, it will create some difficult goaltending decisions for head coach Todd Nelson, who feels confident with his current tandem.
Tyler Bertuzzi has taken Tatar’s spot in the lineup and this has excited us at Wings Nation.
#RedWings Blashill said Bertuzzi will replace Tatar on line with Larkin and Athanasiou. Said Frk or Nielsen will take Tatar’s spot on power play and Bertuzzi, whose minutes will increase, remains on power play.

With the Griffins in the middle of a playoff race, the Wings have 4 call-ups remaining for the season.
Enter Evgeny Svechnikov.
#RedWings Blashill said Evgeny Svechnikov has been playing well lately for @griffinshockey and will get a look with Wings before end of season.
Svechnikov, 7-14-21 in 49 games, will get a look in the NHL down the stretch. Booth and Witkowski remain on the big league roster so don’t expect many more call-ups. Let’s hope Svechnikov finds time in the top 6 soon so we can get a real look.
In other news, Libor Sulak had 14 shots on goal today. if you haven’t joined the hype train….. get on it.
