The Red Wings lost. Again.
This time at the hands of the Florida Panthers. Just short of a month into the season and it already looks like a lost year. Detroit is now 1-8-1 in their last ten games, and based on the way they played in Sunrise, this trend could continue. The team went long stretches without even registering a shot, let alone goals. It was an easy night in the cage for Sergei Bobrovsky, who picked up the win for the Panthers in a 4-0 decision.
Thoughts and Highlights
- The Red Wings were out shot 41-22 in this one. That won’t win you a lot of hockey games. When they did get rubber on net, it was often in a low-danger scoring position.
- Mike Green was out of the lineup with an apparent illness. Green has dealt with health issues for the past year. Hopefully the veteran D-man did not suffer a relapse of the virus that attacked his liver in early 2019.
- Trevor Daley was not available for most of the game as well, exiting midway through with an undisclosed injury.
- Jonathan Bernier stopped 37-41 shots, keeping the score way closer then it should have been. One of his better saves came on Jonathan Huberdeau in the third period.

This will all be worth it in the end, right? RIGHT?

Motor City MVP
Brendan Perlini
There weren’t many who impressed, but Perlini had some flashes that really stood out. The newest Red Wings displayed his speed on several occasions and was able to create some offense with it. Hopefully Jeff Blashill will opt to move him up the lineup. I’d love to see what he could do on a line with Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi.
