The Red Wings have been enjoying quite a bit of success during the preseason, going 3-0 to start off. In a rematch with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit dressed many of their big names. Many of the top prospects were featured as well and the stakes became much higher for some, with the recent news of Mike Green being out an indefinite amount of time to start the season. Detroit managed to take this one 3-2, improving to a perfect 4-0 record.
Worth Mentioning…
- Michael Rasmussen scored a beautiful goal off the rush from a great feed from Filip Zadina. This would tie the game at one a piece.
- Just two minutes later the Anthony Mantha found Andreas Athanasiou all alone to make it 2-1. Dylan Larkin also picked up an assist.
- Joe Veleno showcased his vision with a saucer pass though the neutral zone to Trevor Daley. The veteran defensemen would find the back of the net against his former team.
- Veleno played limited minutes tonight, registering just 9:07 TOI.
- Harri Sateri played the entire game and made a strong case to be the starter for the Grand Rapids Griffins this upcoming season. He made a big breakaway save late in the third to preserve a one goal lead.
Final Thoughts
The team is playing well. Through four games they’ve shown improvement in multiple areas and the younger players have been a big part of that. With four exhibition games left, the inner competition of the defensive prospects should be an interesting story-line to keep up with.
Detroit’s next game will be on Tuesday against the Cicago Blackhawks at 8:30 P.M.
