WINGS POST-GAME: Bertuzzi’s memorable night sparks confidence in team

Amidst of a mid-season downfall where the Red Wings plummet to the league’s basement, the team is in search of a win for some confidence. Valiant efforts haven’t been enough over the past few games but the team still brought its A game against Minnesota tonight. This time the pendulum swung in their favor. The offensive clicked and managed five goals. All while limiting the Wild to two goals and under twenty shots.
Worth Mentioning
- The Wings got the lead early. Tyler Bertuzzi deflected Gustav Nyquist’s point shot, beating Devan Dubnyk just 24 seconds in.
- The Wild scored the next two goals. The first one off an unfortunate bounce over Niklas Kronwall’s stick, giving Luke Kunin a breakaway and eventually his first goal of the season. Nino Niederreiter then scored the go-ahead powerplay goal in the second period.
- Thomas Vanek acted fast against his former team. A sweet effort to jam the puck in the net tied things at two.

- Vanek’s next goal was a clapper from the high slot that found the back of the net.
- The start of the third period was eerily familiar to the first period. A Tyler Bertuzzi deflection goal in the first minute put the Wings up 4-2.

- Bertuzzi wasn’t done. He roofed a backhander for his first career hat-trick.

- The three-point night now gives Bertuzzi 25 points on the season, setting a new career high.
Final Thoughts
A strong effort on both ends of the rink showed the high character of the team tonight. At this time last year More questions than answers were arising from the standings nosedive. You don’t get that sense this year. Certainly something to be optimistic about as the club picked up a feel good win tonight, and one they deserved.
