The Red Wings were able to wrestle away an overtime win from the Wild yesterday, despite posting just 19 shots on goal. Detroit has surprisingly won four of their last six games (4-1-1) and continue to worsen their odds of winning the Draft Lottery.

Because of their cancellation due to bad ice in Carolina earlier this season, the Red Wings have three games in three days. They will play in Carolina the next two days, completing something that hasn’t been done in recent memory.

The Hurricanes are just five points out of the final Wild Card spot, with two games in-hand on the Bruins. These four points would be huge for Carolina, while meaningless for Detroit.

This morning the Red Wings recalled Daniel Renouf from Grand Rapids and he is expected to draw in for his NHL debut. Niklas Kronwall will come out of the lineup because three games in three days would not be good for his on-going knee issues. Renouf was an undrafted free agent that the Red Wings signed out of the University of Maine. The 22-year-old has collected three goals and 12 assists (15 points) in 58 games with the Griffins this season. He will skate with Robbie Russo, who will take Niklas Kronwall’s spot on the power play.

Tomas Tatar and Andreas Athanasiou each scored on Sunday afternoon and now rank No.1 and No.2 on the team in scoring—Tatar has 22 goals and A.A has 17.

Carolina Hurricanes Lines via DailyFaceoff

The Hurricanes come in having won five of their last six games (5-0-1) and will play five games in seven days this week.

Carolina has been contributions from everyone lately, but Jeff Skinner has led the way with nine goals and two assists (11 points) in his last eight games. Elias Lindholm has caught fire down the stretch and has already set a new career-high with 42 points (10G / 32A). He comes in riding a 10-game point streak, scoring four goals and seven assists over that span. Finally, rookie Sebastian Aho is on a six-game point streak of his own. Aho has three goals and five assists (eight points) during that time and is tied for sixth in rookie points (46).

Petr Mrazek vs. Eddie Lack.

Mrazek made 30 saves in the Red Wings’ overtime loss to Tampa Bay on Friday. Mrazek has stopped 58 of 62 shots (.935 SV%) in his last two starts, but will look for his first win since March 16th. Mrazek took on the Hurricanes back in late-October, stopping 29 of 31 shots for a 4-2 win.

Lack is coming off of a 27-save performance in the Hurricanes’ win in New Jersey on Saturday. He has had a difficult season, but has played very well as of late. Lack comes in riding a four-game winning streak while posting a 1.25 GAA and .954 SV%.
