After last nights 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, The Red Wings are right back at it with a date with the Minnesota Wild. The Wild are certainly enjoying their start to 2019 with a 4-1 record. The Red Wings on the other-hand are still figuring things out, going 1-4 in their last 5 games. The Wild currently sit in the western conference’s second wildcard. Detroit is tied for third last in the league at the moment.

THE RED WINGS

Still out with injury is rookie Michael Rasmussen. Christoffer Ehn subs in during his absence.
Finding his stride if Filip Hronek with four points in the last four games. His defensive work will have to better if Detroit wants a chance of winning tonight but the early signs have been positive from the Czech blue-liner. Leading the way offensively over this latest stretch is Andreas Athanasiou with six goals in the last eight games.

THE WILD

Jared Spurgeon is one of the hottest players in the league right. seven points over the last five games, he is third in defensemen scoring since Jan. 3rd.
The Wild third line is also an area Detroit will have to focus on. The trio of Zach Parise, Charlie Coyle, and Luke Kunin make for one of the best depth lines in the NHL.

BETWEEN THE PIPES

Jimmy Howard vs. Devan Debnyk
Jonathan Bernier got the call last night so Jimmy Howard will be manning the crease today. The Red Wings all-star selection will be making his 30th start of the year.
On the other end of the ice is Devan Dubnyk who is having a similar year to Howard. His .915 save percentage is respectable and he gives his team a chance to win every night. The Wings will have to make sure they get a lot of rubber on net if they want a chance to win.
