Construction began on what will become the ice surface at Little Caesars Arena, this past week. Here is a quick update.

With the $635 million arena being scheduled to open for the Red Wings and Pistons in September having the work start on the playing surface itself was an exciting step towards completion. The future ice surface will sit nearly 40 feet below street level with the ability to quickly change from ice to the flooring required for shared duty with the Pistons.  

Despite frigid temperatures in the area, locally based RBV Contracting forges on with space heaters in tow to keep the building (and workers) out of the freezing weather. 

Little Caesars Arena will have more than 86,000 cubic yards of concrete poured in addition to its 7666 pieces of steel required for the structural skeleton. The arena bowl is currently enclosed as work continues on the playing surface as well as the continued progress on the esthetic, structural, and mechanical elements of the future home of the Red Wings.
