The NHL all-star game is a yearly tradition where the best amongst the game come together for a weekend to showcase their world-class skill. A few years ago a new system was adopted where each team is guaranteed to have a representative participate in the event. In years past, its burned the Red Wings, such as last year when Jimmy Howard got the nod over Dylan Larkin because the Atlantic Division had too many forwards going.

This year, though, Detroit will have a representative that fans can get excited about. Monday afternoon the NHL released the official all-star game rosters and Tyler Bertuzzi was selected to represent the Red Wings in St. Louis.

Anthony Mantha was likely to be chosen instead, but his month-long injury paved the way for Bertuzzi to be selected. And it is very well deserved; Bertuzzi has had a stand-out season, scoring 14 goals and 30 points in 40 games this season. He’s been arguably the team’s most consistent player, and possibly team MVP.

Additionally, the NHL will have a fan-vote for “Last Man In”, starting noon on New Year’s Day. Dylan Larkin is the Red Wings nominee for “Last Man In” to join the Atlantic Division all-star team.

All-star weekend will take place from Jan. 24-25 and will be hosted by the St. Louis Blues. Superstar winger David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins will be the captain of the Atlantic Division all-star team. Full rosters can be seen below:
