Welcome back to this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday!
On this day in 1999, a Brendan Shanahan hat trick helped lead the Red Wings to a 7-2 whallop of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Two of the three tallies came within a 55-second span in the second period with his third goal coming near the end of the third frame.
“It’s nice to get rewarded for the way I’m feeling health-wise,” Shanahan told The Associated Press following the game.
He had more than enough run support out there that night as Igor Larionov potted three assists and Mathieu Dandenault, Vyacheslav Kozlov, Nick Lindstrom, Larry Murphy and Steve Yzerman all finished with two point nights. Even goaltender Chris Osgood got in on the action, getting a second assist on Shanahan’s third goal.
The Wings, however, were without star defenceman Sergei Fedorov who begun serving the first game of a five-game suspension for slashing New York Islanders rearguard Zdeno Chara.
The game opened an eight-point lead over the St. Louis Blues in the Central Divison. Detroit finished the season first in the division and toppled the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 in the first round of the playoffs, but fell in a four-game sweep to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
