Detroit Red Wings prospect Sebastian Cossa has been nominated for the Del Wilson Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the Western Hockey League’s top goaltender.
Cossa, 19, finished with a 33–9–3 record and a .913 save percentage in 46 WHL games with the Edmonton Oil Kings this season. The Red Wings originally selected Cossa 15th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Dylan Garand (Kamloops Blazers), Daniel Hauser (Winnipeg Ice), and Taylor Gauthier (Portland Winterhawks) were also nominated for the award. Each goaltender comes from one of the WHL’s four divisions; Cossa was nominated as the top goaltender from the Central Division in 2021–22.
Cossa was also named the top Central Division goaltender in 2020–21, eventually finishing as a runner-up behind Calgary Flames prospect and Everett Silvertips star Dustin Wolf for the league award.
The Oil Kings qualified for the 2022 WHL playoffs as the No. 2-seeded team in the Eastern Conference. Cossa is in his third season with the Oil Kings but has yet to see WHL playoff action, as both the 2020 and 2021 postseasons were cancelled due to COVID-19.
