Guess who’s back?… back again. Yes, it’s forward @Bobby Ryan, who’s agreed to a professional tryout contract with the Detroit Red Wings ahead of training camp.
After spending seven seasons with the Ottawa Senators, Ryan, 34, joined the Red Wings on a one-year deal last season and served as a mentor for this young group, which certainly didn’t go unnoticed inside the organization.
But without a guaranteed roster spot, the 6’2″ forward will now be tasked with competing for a bottom-six role against skaters like @Sam Gagner, @Carter Rowney, @Jonatan Berggren, @Taro Hirose and @Givani Smith.
Limited to just 33 games in 2020-21 due to a season-ending upper-body injury, Ryan averaged 15:19 minutes of ice time per game, producing seven total goals, one power-play goal, 14 total points, three power-play points, 73 shots on goal, 31 hits, 17 blocks, 10 takeaways and a 31.3% faceoff percentage.
Detroit will open its preseason schedule against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sep. 29 at 8:30 pm ET.
