The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday signed defenseman Brian Lashoff to a two-way, two-year contract extension.

The contract pays the 28-year-old $700,000 in the NHL and $275,000 in the AHL, according to MLive.com’s Ansar Khan.

Lashoff has 11 assists in 44 games this season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, making his debut in the 2008-09 season. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Detroit in 2008, Lashoff has played in 123 career games with the Red Wings since 2012-13, picking up 13 points (2-11—13).

One of only three players to be a part of both the 2017 and 2013 Calder Cup championships (Mitch Callahan and Nathan Paetsch), Lashoff recorded 19 points (5-14—19) in 73 Calder Cup Playoff games, which also places second in the Griffins’ record book.

With just six NHL appearances in the past five seasons, it’s safe to say Lashoff is a full-time AHLer at this point in his career. However, he’s been a great mentor for the plethora of young defensemen the Red Wings have drafted in recent years, including Dennis Cholowski, Filip Hronek, Joe Hicketts and Vili Saarijarvi.
