The second major restricted free agent has been locked up. On Wednesday afternoon The Red Wings came to terms with Anthony Mantha on a bridge deal.
The deal is worth $6.6 million over two years, and carries an AAV of $3.3 million. This deal works for both sides. Detroit can save money to lock up Dylan Larkin, and Mantha can bet on himself and potentially get a huge payday when his deal expires.
The deal itself is a bargain. Matt Cane had predicted a two-year deal with an AAV of $4.5 million. It’s safe to say Mantha gave the club a discount so they can solve their short term cap issues.
