Fresh off playing a major role on the Grand Rapids Griffins’ Calder Cup win, the Red Wings have given Ben Street a one-year contract extension. This announcement comes via their official website, though it doesn’t offer any insight on the terms of the contract.

Street is coming off of a one-year, two-way deal signed with Detroit as a free agent that paid him $600k at the NHL level and $325k at the AHL level. Obviously he isn’t going to play a role on the Wings next season, but good, veteran depth in the farm is always a good thing to have.

Street played just six games with the Wings in 2016-17, recording one assist. With the Griffins, Street scored 25 goals and 30 assists in 62 games and 21 points in 19 playoff games.
