The Detroit Red Wings have claimed defenseman @Olli Juolevi off waivers from the Florida Panthers.
The 23-year-old left-handed defenseman had played in 10 games with the Panthers this season after being acquired from the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 10, 2021.
The Canucks originally selected Juolevi with the fifth-overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (@Matthew Tkachuk went to the Calgary Flames with the next selection).
In 33 career NHL games with the Canucks and Panthers, Juolevi has two goals and three points. He stands 6’2″ and weighs 182 pounds.
In a corresponding move to create roster space for Juolevi, the Red Wings assigned center @Joe Veleno to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Sunday.
The Red Wings will return to action at home against the Arizona Coyotes on Mar. 8.
