On this day in 2002, Detroit Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek recorded his 10th career playoff shutout as the club beat the Colorado Avalanche in game six of the Western Conference finals.

The 37-year-old had just come off of one of the best seasons of his career that saw him post a career high 41 wins. Not only that, but it was Hasek’s first year with the Wings.

He had been acquired before the start of the season from the Buffalo Sabres in a deal that saw Detroit give up Vyacheslav Kozlov and a first-round pick in 2002 that became Jim Slater. A conditional pick was also included, but the condition was never met.

Hasek and the Red Wins cruised to a 51-17-10-4 record, the best in the league.

While he notched his 10th career shutout today against the Avalanche in 2002, he had also notched two other clean slates in those playoffs with a few more that followed. He shutout the Vancouver Canucks in game five of their first-round series, and then the St. Louis Blues in game five of their second-round series.
