The Boston Bruins are off to an impressive 15-3-5 start in 2019-20 and have the best goal differential in the NHL at +23 heading into Tuesday night’s action. The Bruins are hoping to return to the Stanley Cup Final this season and to get the job done this time around after falling short last year.
Going off at +850, Boston is the current favorite on the Stanley Cup odds for 2020 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. It helps the Bruins’ case that they have already opened up a big lead in the Atlantic Division, leading the second-place Florida Panthers (who are going off at +2500 to win the Stanley Cup) by six points atop the division.
Two more of the Detroit Red Wings’ division rivals are also among the top six favorites to win the Stanley Cup at online betting sites in the Tampa Bay Lightning (+900) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (+1200). The Lightning are 12-7-2 through their first 21 games; not too far off from the 14-6-1 they were at this point last season before reeling off a 48-10-3 run to wrap up the regular season. Tampa Bay wouldn’t mind another run like that, but avoiding disaster in the postseason this year is much higher on the priority list.
The Maple Leafs entered this season with sky-high expectations, but a six-game losing streak in November dropped Toronto’s record to 9-10-4. Toronto fired Mike Babcock as a response to the slump, and have since won each of their last two games under new head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Other top contenders to win the Stanley Cup this season include the Washington Capitals (+1000), St. Louis Blues (+1200), Toronto Maple Leafs (+1200), New York Islanders (+1200), and Colorado Avalanche (+1400). The Capitals have the current lead in the Metropolitan Division with a 16-4-5 record, but the Islanders have three games in hand and are 16-4-2 on the season. New York had a 15-0-2 point streak snapped on Monday with a loss to the Anaheim Ducks (+10000).
You’ll need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the Stanley Cup odds board to find the Detroit Red Wings. Right below the Kings at +20000 to win the Cup are the 7-16-3 Red Wings at +50000 on those NHL odds. The Blues were 9-13-4 last season before turning their season around to win the Stanley Cup; Red Wings fans can dream, right?
