Detroit Red Wings defenseman @Moritz Seider snapped his 24-game goalless streak to put his team up 1–0 over the Carolina Hurricanes late in Thursday’s game at PNC Arena in Raleigh.
The Calder Trophy frontrunner received a slick drop-pass by Red Wings captain @Dylan Larkin in the slot and immediately fired a shot that snuck under the arm of Hurricanes goaltender @Antti Raanta and into the back of the net.
Seider’s sixth goal of the season opened the scoring in favor of the Red Wings with just 12.1 seconds remaining in the middle period on Thursday. Larkin and @Tyler Bertuzzi picked up the helpers on Seider’s goal, his first since the Philadelphia Flyers visited the Red Wings on Feb. 12.

Seider’s goal came just seconds after the Hurricanes successfully killed off a two-minute tripping penalty assessed to defenseman @Brett Pesce. For official classification purposes, Seider scored with both teams at full strength (although Pesce had only just stepped out of the penalty box when the puck went in the net).
The goal came at the end of what was a very lopsided period at PNC Arena. The Hurricanes outshot the Red Wings 18–10 in the middle frame, bringing the shot totals for the game to 29 for Carolina and just 14 for Detroit.
The Red Wings (28–35–10) remain ahead of the Hurricanes (48–18–8) by the same 1–0 score after 40 minutes of play in Raleigh.
