Jimmy Howard Recalled from Grand Rapids

It was announced this afternoon that the Detroit Red Wings have recalled goaltender Jimmy Howard from Grand Rapids.

With the recent run of injuries that have occurred this week, the Red Wings caught some luck as they will soon be welcoming Jimmy Howard back between the pipes for the first time since spraining his knee on December 20th against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After returning from injury, the veteran netminder was working through a conditioning stint with the Griffins before being recalled Friday. Howard left Wednesday’s game in Grand Rapids as a precaution with what was described as a “minor setback” as a result of irritation of the scar tissue around his knee.

According to reports, Howard will not play this weekend but General Manager, Ken Holland, did say that Howard will be back on the ice with the team as early as Monday. His current status is listed as day-to-day.

So far this season, Jimmy Howard leads the Red Wings in goaltending with a GAA of 1.96 and .934 save%.
