With an overtime goal in a 3-2 win against the Iowa Wild on Monday, Filip Hronek became the first player in Grand Rapids Griffins history to record back-to-back overtime goals.
With the win Monday, the Griffins move to 10-7-0-2 on the year, fifth place in the Central Division behind the Rockford IceHogs.
Hronek’s first overtime goal, in a 4-3 win against the Chicago Wolves on Saturday, was a great individual effort to evade the Wolves defender in the offensive zone and then an attempted pass to Wade Megan was deflected by a Wolves defenseman and past goalie Oscar Dansk.
The second overtime goal came on the power play, as Carter Camper found Hronek standing all alone on the left circle, and he ripped a shot past Kaapo Kahkonen for the win.
On the season, Hronek has three goals and seven assists in 13 games. In six games with the Detroit Red Wings this season, he has one goal and two assists.
