While the Detroit Red Wings’ five-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday, the more concerning news that followed this team’s 5-2 loss against the Nashville Predators was the injury to rookie defenseman @Moritz Seider, who left in the third period.
After the game, coach Jeff Blashill couldn’t provide any additional information on Seider, 20, or the type of injury he suffered. But once the Red Wings hit the ice for practice Wednesday morning, thankfully, October’s Rookie of the Month was seen skating with his teammates and participating in drills without any lingering issues from the night before.
Time to take a huge sigh of relief.
As seen above, Seider appears to have avoided any serious injury after receiving an awkward bodycheck from Predators forward @Tanner Jeannot.
Following Detroit’s morning practice, Blashill spoke to the media and expressed that Seider should be “good to go” ahead of the team’s upcoming back-to-back series against the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche.
In addition, the Red Wings’ head coach also provided some additional injury updates, revealing that defenseman @Filip Hronek was absent from practice due to a maintenance day. Also, @Marc Staal and @Tyler Bertuzzi both remain in the league’s COVID-19 protocol, and @Gustav Lindstrom remains sidelined with a lower-body injury.
Got all that? Great!

For Seider, the 6’4″ blueliner has performed far better than anyone could’ve hoped for thus far, as he’s currently viewed as one of the favorites – along with teammate @Lucas Raymond – to capture this season’s Calder Memorial Trophy.
In total, the right-handed defenseman has logged 22:26 minutes of ice-time per game, posting three goals, 18 points, 45 blocks, 43 shots on goal, 37 hits and 12 takeaways through his first 26 games in the National Hockey League.
As mentioned, the Red Wings are slated to begin a back-to-back series against the Blues on Thursday, with puck drop scheduled for 8:00 pm ET.
