The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward prospect Cross Hanas to a three-year entry-level contract, the club announced Wednesday afternoon.

Hanas, 20, was originally selected by the Red Wings in the second round (55th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. He was the fourth player the team drafted that year, following @Lucas Raymond (fourth overall), William Wallinder (32nd), and Theodor Niederbach (51st).

The Red Wings were set to lose their exclusive signing rights to Hanas on June 1, 2022. The 6’1″, 174-pound winger has 22 goals and 70 points in 53 Western Hockey League games with the Portland Winterhawks this season.

The on-ice highlight to this point in Hanas’ 2021–22 campaign was when he successfully used a @Trevor Zegras-style flip pass to set up a goal against the Spokane Chiefs back on Dec. 18, 2021.

Hanas has also scored multiple goals in the WHL using “the Michigan” lacrosse-style move.

Hanas’ contract will take effect during the 2022–23 season, during which he’ll likely play for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
