Blue Jackets at Red Wings | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Red Wings had their winning streak snapped at two games with a 4-2 loss at home to the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday night. It was a brutal scheduling spot for Detroit, who after impressive upsets over the Winnipeg Jets and the Montreal Canadiens had to play a third game in four nights and the second night of a back-to-back against the Kings at home after being in Montreal the night before.
After Eric Comrie picked up the loss on Sunday, the Wings will turn back to Jonathan Bernier on Tuesday night. Bernier has stopped 68 of the last 71 shots he has faced in his wins over Winnipeg and Montreal.
Detroit is 5-12-1 at home this season with a current stretch of 1-7 on the moneyline over its last eight games per the OddsShark NHL Database.
With a record of 13-14-6 so far in 2019-20, Columbus’ stretch of three straight postseason berths is in serious jeopardy this season. To their credit, the Blue Jackets have mostly weathered the storm of losing Sergei Bobrovsky this offseason, with their goals-against average dipping only slightly to 2.94 from last year’s mark of 2.82. But on offense, Artemi Panarin and his 87 points are sorely missed; Columbus ranks 29th in goals for with 2.48 per game this season after averaging 3.12 per game last year.
Tuesday night’s total is set at six goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 5-2 in Columbus’ last seven games against Eastern Conference opponents.
If Jonathan Bernier is still in the same form he was in last week, the Red Wings have an excellent shot at pulling off another upset win in this one. With five of the team’s next seven games coming on the road, now would be as good of a time as any to pick up another rare 2019 win.
