The Detroit Red Wings had an abysmal record on the road last season of 5-26-3. The Red Wings will try to improve on that mark in their first two road games of the season as they visit the Chicago Blackhawks for a pair of games on Friday and Sunday night.
Detroit is a +115 road underdog on the NHL odds for Friday night’s game at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Chicago will be favoured for the first time this season going off at -135 at home.
Red Wings vs Blackhawks | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Red Wings wrapped up their four-game homestand on a high note with a 3-2 win in overtime over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Bobby Ryan is off to a fantastic start with the Red Wings with four goals through his first four games in Detroit. And defensively, Detroit has allowed only 2.5 goals per game after finishing the season dead last in goals-against average with 3.73 last season. Now the Red Wings will try to keep things going to snap the seven-game road losing streak on which they ended the 2019-20 season.
In their last 10 games against the Blackhawks, the Red Wings are 3-5-2 per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Chicago has the worst record in the NHL through the first 10 days of the 2021 season with an 0-3-1 record thus far. The Blackhawks finally showed some life on offense in their last game against the Florida Panthers, forcing a 4-4 overtime before losing 5-4. Chicago had been outscored 15-5 through its first three games of the season with two losses to the Tampa Bay Lightning and another to the Panthers. The team will need to cut down on its eye-popping 5.00 goals-against average if it hopes to turn things around anytime soon.
Friday night’s total is set at six goals at sports betting sites. The OVER is 4-1 in Chicago’s last five games.
This will be an interesting two-game set between two of the league’s rebuilding teams. The Blackhawks currently have the more talented roster on paper, but the Red Wings have certainly been in better form to start the season. It will be interesting to see if Detroit can keep up its solid play on the road.
