Detroit Red Wings defenseman @Moritz Seider has been named the National Hockey League’s “Rookie of the Month” for October, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Seider, 20, currently leads the Red Wings with eight assists in nine games. Detroit selected the 6’4″, 197-pound rearguard with the sixth-overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Seider is currently riding a five-game point streak entering Tuesday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. @Filip Hronek (23:11) is the only Red Wing skater currently averaging more ice-time per game than Seider.
Only Red Wings teammate @Lucas Raymond, who has four goals and nine points in nine games, ranks ahead of Seider on the NHL’s rookie scoring leaderboard. Raymond, @Tanner Jeannot, and @Spencer Knight were the other finalists for the October distinction.
Seider is the first NHL defenseman to be named “Rookie of the Month” since @Quinn Hughes received the distinction in February 2020; he’s the first Red Wing player to get the nod since @Dylan Larkin in November 2015.
