2019 NHL draft lottery: Red Wings slide two spots, get sixth pick

The hockey gods were not with the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings were awarded the sixth pick in the 2019 NHL draft lottery on Tuesday in Toronto, falling two spots from the No. 4 spot.

Now that Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko will most likely not be coming to Detroit, who could the Red Wings be targeting come June?

Sportsnet has defenseman Bowen Byran in the sixth spot, and the Red Wings are in desperate need of defensive help. From Sportsnet:

Competes like a demon and has played a huge part in the Giants rise to the top of the Western Conference. And by the way, he’s in the 30-goal neighborhood, which is rare for a d-man in any league.

In addition to Byram, there’s the possibility Trevor Zegras (C), Peyton Krebs (C) or Alex Turcotte (C) are available, as well.

Of course, maybe someone like Dylan Dozens (C) or Vasily Podkolzin (RW) falls to the sixth spot, like Filip Zadina fell to the Red Wings at No. 6 just last year.
