The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman @Simon Edvinsson to a three-year entry-level contract, the club announced on Sunday afternoon.
Edvinsson, 19, was selected by the Red Wings with the sixth-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. His new deal with the Red Wings will take effect in the 2022–23 season.
In 44 Swedish Hockey League games with Frölunda HC this season, Edvinsson scored two goals and 19 points. He tied fellow Red Wings prospect William Wallinder for the most points by a U20 player in the SHL in 2021–22.
Edvinsson stands 6’5″ and weighs 207 pounds. He’s an immensely skilled left-handed defenseman who served as an alternate captain for Team Sweden at the shortened 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship last December, scoring three points in two games.
