The Detroit Red Wings have used their fourth round picks on forward Sam Stange, taken 97th overall, and goaltender Jan Bednar, taken 107th overall.
Stange, a right-winger, is 6’1, 201 lbs. and is entering his first season with the University of Wisconsin in the NCAA.
Last year he split time between the Sioux City Musketeers and Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL scoring 26 goals and 45 points in 48 games. He was ranked 110th among NA skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
Bednar is a huge goalie who stands at 6’4, 196 lbs. and just joined the QMJHL’s Acadie-Bathurst Titans. Last year, he split time between HC Energie Karlovy Vary in the Czech league and HC Banik Sokolov in the Czech2 league.
With the Energie, he played 13 games and posted a .884 save percentage and with Sokolov, he posted a .873 save percentage in 24 games.
Here’s what EliteProspects had to say about Bednar:
His athleticism and raw toolkit are among the best in the class. He’ll post high-flying, free-wheeling saves with windmilled gloves and lunging splits that will wow the crowd and get the job done. There’s no save too out of reach for Bednar to make and no contortion he’s not willing to attempt to knock the puck away from the crease.
