Flyers at Red Wings | OddsShark Matchup Report

Jonathan Bernier was outstanding in his return from injury on Saturday, making 30 saves and allowing only one goal at home against the New York Rangers. But it wasn’t enough for a win as the Red Wings were shut out in a 1-0 loss, falling to 0-7-1 over their last eight games and to 12-37-4 on the season. The Red Wings got some good news on the injury front this week as Andreas Athanasiou is set to return to the lineup against Philadelphia, but they got some bad news as well as rookie winger Filip Zadina is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with an upper body injury.

Detroit has lost each of its last four games at home, falling to 8-17-2 at home on the season per the OddsShark NHL Database.

Philadelphia picked up a 6-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday to improve to 28-17-7 on the season and to 5-2 over its last seven games. With their strong play of late, the Flyers have fought their way into playoff contention and are one of four teams bunched in the standings fighting for the third seed in the Metropolitan Division. The Flyers have been one of the league’s best home teams at 18-4-4 while struggling on the road this season to the tune of a 10-13-3 record.

Monday night’s total is set at six goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 5-1 in Detroit’s last six home games against Philadelphia.

The Flyers have struggled on the road this season and are without their starting goaltender Carter Hart. If Jonathan Bernier gets the start and stands on his head again, he could give the Red Wings a shot at an upset; but with an offense that’s been held to two goals or less in seven of its last eight games, there isn’t a ton of reason for optimism.
