It was only a matter of time.

UPDATE: Detroit #RedWings EVP & GM Ken Holland today announced that Jeff Blashill has agreed to a two-year contract extension to remain head coach of the Red Wings.

The Red Wings commitment to Blashill shows the faith they have in him. His record may not show it, but he has done a lot of good things to earn that trust. The talk of “culture” won’t be his saving grace with most fans, but you can’t deny he has maintain the identity that makes the Red Wings so special.
The two-year timeline will be an interesting one to keep an eye on. If the rebuild stays on schedule, Detroit should be closer to the playoffs than they are picking in the top-5 of the NHL draft.
