It is New Years Eve so I don’t have time to write this and you don’t have time to read it so I will keep it short and sweet!

The Red Wings are coming off of a 3-2 shootout win over the Rangers on Friday, ending a three-game losing skid.

Tonight they welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins to town, who come in having lost three dogs their last five and surprisingly seventh in the Metropolitan Division with a 19-17-3 (41 points) record.

The Red Wings will be without Anthony Mantha for the second straight game, but he is hopeful he will return on Wednesday. With Mantha out again, Tyler Bertuzzi will remain on the top-line. Bertuzzi has looked good since coming back up from Grand Rapids (AHL) but he is still searching for his first goal of the season. As long as he is averaging over 15 minutes per game, the points and goals will come playing alongside Henrik Zetterberg and Gustav Nyquist.

The Penguins have  a couple injuries, particularly on the blueline with both Kris Letang and Justin Schultz sidelined with injuries. However they have all of their big guns, Sidney Crosby, Evegeni Malkin and Phil Kessel available up front.

With some injuries, Frank Corrado and Daniel Sprong are up from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Jamie Oleksiak was recently acquired from the Dallas Stars.

Jimmy Howard vs. Matt Murray.

Howard allowed two goals on 39 shots in the shootout win over the Rangers. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Howard, who comes in a 2-3-0 with a 2.19 GAA and .928 SV% in his last five appearances.

Murray missed the Penguins last game but has gone 3-3-0 wth a 2.91 GAA and .898 SV% in six December starts. Murray was great in back-to-back Stanley Cup wins, but hasn’t been as sharp in 2017-18.

Puck-drop between the Red Wings and Penguins is at 7:00 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena. It can be seen on nationally on either FoxSports-Detroit.
