I really don’t care where Edmonton drafts tomorrow because any way you slice it they are going to get a fine player, but i want to see the hockey world (mostly Toronto ) lose their F5*king minds on social media.

I’d also like to see a write-up about which top-4 defenceman the Oilers are most likely to bring in this summer.

Followed by an article about which guy the Oilers plan to give up in the expansion draft next summer, since they can only protect 3 guys and are obligated to protect Sekera and his NMC.

  • MattyFranchise

No decision has been made on whether or not a team must protect NMC players.

As far as I’m concerned a team being forced to put a NMC player on their protected roster automatically is a poor decision.

Players have a right to have their contracts honored when they sign the NMC in the first place and a team that ends up signing a bunch of NMC to protect players they may not want 2 years down the road is simply shooting itself in the foot.

Don’t quote me on this but I’m also pretty sure that NMC are only a right afforded to UFA players. I figure any potential expansion teams will be looking more toward players that are in their RFA years.

Sometime this week, the NHL and NHLPA agreed on expansion draft rules. No-move clauses are protected, and teams will not be able to expose those players. Now a meeting of the NHL’s Executive Committee, the most powerful group of 10 owners. It’s chaired by Boston’s Jeremy Jacobs. It’s expected that group will be called together in the next week or two. If they approve, the final hurdle would be a full Board of Governors meeting.
