It looks like the Detroit Red Wings will be short another forward on Friday night. Veteran forward Brad Richards will not be travelling with the team to Buffalo, instead leaving town to attend the funeral of his grandfather.

Remember a few years back, when Brian Elliott had one fo the best save percentages in NHL history? It was an insane, 38-game run that saw him save 94% of pucks, something that he hasn't matched since. However, you wouldn't know that if you watched him tonight; while the Wings had their moments of let down, he made their overwhelmingly positive moments turn into ones of frustration, stopping all but one of the Red Wings' 30 shots in a 2-1 regulation loss.

The Red Wings are 1-0-1 since the launch of WingsNation and despite Sunday’s loss, Detroit had a lot to like about their game. Unfortunately, it was an all to familiar shootout finish. Since the 2012-13 season, the Red Wings are 12-27 (30.7 W%) in the shootout. Thank god for 3-on-3 overtime—which we are 7-5 in by the way. How familiar have we become with one goal games this season? Well, of Detroit’s first 45 games, 30 have been decided by a single goal. Here’s the good news. The Wings are a whopping 18-4-8 in such games.
