“Yeah, but this year is a weak draft.”
We’ve all heard this a hundred times already. Whether it’s a TSN Insider, hockey Twitter, some bogus blog or that dummy you work with who has a Leafs tattoo, everyone seems certain this draft is unusually terrible. Granted, there isn’t an Auston Matthews this year, there certainly isn’t a Connor McDavid and there might not even be an Aaron Ekblad out there up for grabs this time around. Does that automatically mean this draft is terrible or simply that it just hasn’t been as good as the previous few years? I think it’s more realistic that a Matthews, Laine or McDavid is the exception here and not the rule when looking at a top five pick and thus this draft should be viewed with a much wider scope. That is to say, this might not be a weak draft, it may just be a return to normal. The myth of the 'bad draft' is exactly what the Red Wings need to exploit immediately to kick-stick this rebuild.

Detroit entered this one red hot after back-to-back wins against the Capitals and the Pens. With the deadline approaching and their bye-week coming up, there are a lot of decisions to be made regarding the roster, the direction and the overall look of this team. This Tuesday evening showing against the Islanders was not a good look for most of the guys out there as Detroit's play came back down to earth pretty quickly.

Fresh off their shootout win against the Capitals, the Wings had a quick turnaround for their 3PM start in Pittsburgh against Sid and the Pens. The surprise win yesterday had the Wings riding high into this matinee but would the momentum hold up against one of the leagues best offences?
This weekend means a lot to the club as it's by far the hardest part of their year but with a rather easy March ahead of them, are they packing this one in or will front office choose to go all in on the streak?

The Wings found themselves coming into this Saturday matinee on a five game slide. This shouldn't be a surprise to many given the quality of competition and if anything Red Wings fans have spent more time researching the 2017 draft than they have been checking the standings.

Tonight's meeting was an important one for both teams. The Wings came in on a two game win streak, desperate to make the playoffs and keep the streak alive. Meanwhile, the Jackets have lost 9 of their last 15 and have been trying to recapture some of the magic they had earlier in the season.
