If you take the Red Wing fandom out of it for a minute, that final 23-ish minutes of hockey at the Centennial Classic was some of the most exciting hockey that I’ve seen in a long time. With that said, the Red Wings failed to capitalize on a few great chances in overtime and ended up dropping a point to the Maple Leafs.

Centenial Classic

I hope you all had a wonderful New Year's Eve and I assume the majority of you are a little groggy while reading this. The Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs. It doesn't get any better than that. OK, maybe it could be at The Big House, but BMO Field looks great and the scene today should great. People often forget during these outdoor games that there is a huge two points still on the line and the Red Wings certainly every point they can get.

It’s Daniel Alfredsson night in Ottawa. After spending 17 years in Ottawa and one with the Red Wings, Alfredsson will have his No.11 retired in Ottawa tonight. The Swedish centre had 426 goals and 682 assists (1108 points) in 1178 career games with the Senators. The Red Wings did not record the win during the 1997 Stanley Cup celebration game on Tuesday, so we’ll see how they do on Alfie Night tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think it might already be time to shift our attention to reading scouting reports and who we are going to pick in the Top 5 of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. If the Red Wings continue at the pace they’re on, the next three and a half months are going to be a nightmare for Red Wings fans that they haven’t lived since the 1980’s.
