If they made it easy, they just wouldn't be the Detroit Red Wings. But magically, they pulled off a 5-4 regulation win tonight against the New York Islanders. Sure, it's not exactly the best barometer, but wow, what a wild game.

Good news came earlier today in terms of the injury front for a pair of Red Wings.

Boom. Additionally, it sounds like Jimmy Howard's ready to return to professional hockey action this weekend... though not quite for the Red Wings.

Here's your Saturday night rumor mill:
Take every name you hear this time of year with a grain of salt, but I'm told #Blackhawks have at least sniffed around Nyquist and Tatar.— Mark Lazerus (@MarkLazerus) January 21, 2017

After being out for nearly a month, Jimmy Howard was today placed on LTIR.
Earlier today, Howard found himself on the ice:
It's unclear if he suffered a setback or just a "that doesn't feel right", but he's still clearly at least a few weeks away from being good to go.
It's a shame, considering he was playing a Vezina-worthy performance this season.

In his rookie season a year ago, Dylan Larkin was THE GUY in Detroit.
An all-star, 23 goals, a playoff appearance and the youngest Detroit Red Wing since seemingly the moon landing, Larkin was the American Dream personified if there ever was one. Stepping into a big role immediately for his boyhood team, for once, the Wings had a youngster they could show off to the rest of the league.
This season, he's on pace for a whoppin' 29 points. Matching up with the performance last season of... Antoine Roussel. By comparison, both Thomas Vanek and Henrik Zetterberg have 30 and 31 points respectively so far this season. If this team is Larkin's to lead, this year isn't looking like the one he'll do it.
